Israel is making progress in constructing a key gas-link with neighboring Egypt which will enable exports which averaged 1bn cfd for 1H24 to increase by around 200mn cfd. A 46km stretch of offshore pipeline linking Ashdod and Ashkelon is due to be completed by May 2025, and should boost pipeline export capacity to more than 1.2bn cfd.
First announced in January 2021, the pipeline is intended to bypass bottlenecks within Israel’s southern gas network and boost flows from the offshore EMG pipeline linking Ashkelon to Egypt’s Arish, from 600mn cfd to 800mn cfd. The short connection was originally due to be completed in late-2022 (MEES, 22 January 2021) but suffered delays linked to a malfunction with the pipe-laying vessel, before work was then impacted by the fallout from 7 October attacks (MEES, 17 November 2023).
