There’s a new sight for drivers stuck in Riyadh’s rush-hour traffic. The delayed Riyadh metro system is finally set to open by year-end, officials hope, and drivers can now look up and see trains smoothly running along the tracks as testing of the system nears completion. These test runs are an increasingly common sight, and soon they should be carrying passengers. The big question is whether many drivers will switch their cars for the metro and thereby help reduce congestion, and reduce gasoline consumption. Expectations for now at least, are low.
