*Asian LNG imports posted another firm month for August. As with July, collective imports by the region’s top five buyers – China, Japan, South Korea, India and Taiwan – at 20.2mn tons, were just below the record figure for the month set in 2021. Collective year-to-date volumes at 157.5mn tons are up 7.5% year-on-year. This is also shy of the record eight-month figure of 163.5mn tons set in 2021. However, with 2021 having seen a relatively weak Q4, 2024 may well set a new record high (see chart 1).
