National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) subsidiary Petropars is gearing up to install a second production platform at South Pars’ Phase 11 early next year. Phase 11, which began production at 14mn m³/d (494mn cfd) last year (MEES, 18 August 2023), is the final and most complex development phase of the giant 750mn m3/d (26.5bn cfd)-capacity offshore gas field shared with Qatar, where it is known as North Field.
Petropars took over the project after TotalEnergies and CNPC pulled out with the re-imposition of sanctions in 2018. Once completed, Phase-11 is planned to produce 2bn cfd of gas. Iran relies on South Pars for more than 70% of its gas needs. (CONTINUED - 798 WORDS)
