Egypt says it has written to the UN Security Council to protest “Ethiopia’s unilateral policies” regarding the fifth filling of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) (MEES, 26 July), the foreign ministry announced on 1 September.
“After 13 years of negotiations on in good faith, the negotiations came to an end as it became clear to everyone that Addis Ababa wanted to stall indefinitely as a cover while creating a de facto situation without any political will to reach a solution,” foreign minister Badr Abdel Atty said in his letter.
