Qatar’s Laffan Refinery Company-2 consortium has awarded an engineering, procurement, supply, construction and commissioning contract for the Laffan Refinery Phase 2 (LR2) project to Japan’s Chiyoda and Taiwan’s CTCI. The $600mn contract calls for the construction of a second 146,000 b/d capacity condensate splitter plant at Ras Laffan, with completion slated for 2016.
LR2 will be built alongside the existing condensate splitter, which was brought into operation in 2009. The splitter will produce 60,000 b/d of naphtha, 53,000 b/d of jet fuel, 24,000 b/d of gasoil and 9,000 b/d of LPG. The consortium building LR2 comprises Qatar Petroleum (QP – 84%), France’s Total (10%), and Japanese firms Idemitsu (2%), Cosmo (2%), Marubeni (1%) and Mitsui (1%). QP signed a contract for LR2 with the consortium last month (MEES, 26 April). QP subsidiary Qatargas will operate the plant. (CONTINUED - 257 WORDS)
