Egyptian Electricity Holding Company (EEHC) subsidiary EDEPC aims to start up a 650MW thermal power plant at Suez in mid-2016. The project was conceived as a gas-fired plant with an option to burn fuel oil, but Egypt’s gas supply squeeze means it will instead run on oil. The plant is being built 3km south of the city of Suez, on the site of a plant which has been demolished after decommissioning in 2002.
France’s Alstom is providing the steam turbine generator under a 2012 contract, while Germany’s Siemens is supplying and installing other electrical equipment and cables, including an uninterruptible power supply, under a newly-awarded deal. The plant is being built by Egypt’s PGESCO, which will oversee commissioning and start-up. Civil works are being undertaken by local firm Arab Contractors Company. (CONTINUED - 330 WORDS)
