Iraq’s Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) plans to more than double its power generation capacity from 4GW to 8.6GW by the end of 2016.
At the heart of current KRG capacity are three combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) plants. These can currently generate up to 3GW in open-cycle mode, but will deliver 4.5GW – with the same volume of gas feedstock – upon conversion to more efficient combined-cycle operation (see table). A further 3.1GW will be added from six new plants, according to official KRG plans. (CONTINUED - 647 WORDS)
