Sudan is aiming to boost production by 20,000 b/d in 2015 – the biggest year-on-year increment since losing around 75% of its output to the South. But while this target may be achievable, further increases are looking unlikely.
Sudan is targeting oil production of 140,000 b/d by end-2015, the Ministry of Petroleum says, up 20,000 b/d on the 2014 average of 120,000 b/d. This comes as part of the ministry’s highly ambitious medium-term plan, unveiled in 2013, which envisages output ramping up to beyond 300,000 b/d by end-2017, in an attempt to replace at least some of the volumes it lost to former civil war foe South Sudan, when it broke away in 2011.
