Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources has signed a $250mn contract with France’s Axens for construction of a continuous catalytic regeneration (CCR) unit at its Assiut refinery. This will have capacity to process 14,800 b/d of naphtha to deliver 11,600 b/d of high octane gasoline and 200 b/d of butane.
Petroleum Minister Sharif Isma’il says the project is part of the ministry’s plan to upgrade existing plants to increase production capacity to meet local market needs. He says the CCR will help reduce gasoline imports. Egypt imported 69,000 b/d of gasoline in 2014, compared with 144,000 b/d consumption – both records. (CONTINUED - 314 WORDS)
