Algeria’s state petroleum firm Sonatrach is again mulling gas-based petchems projects, despite uncertainty over local gas production and demand from power generators and industry exceeding supply. CEO Amine Mazouzi says the company is “currently conducting talks with various international technology partners,” according to state news agency APS.
Mr Mazouzi made the announcement after a signing ceremony for the award of a ¥120bn ($1.04bn) contract to Japan’s JGC, for a booster unit to be installed in the gas separation and compression facilities in Hassi R’Mel gas field. JGC says the booster unit is intended for “maintaining a production plateau” at Hassi R’Mel and is scheduled for completion in early 2020. (CONTINUED - 367 WORDS)
