The UAE is tendering for two large solar power projects as it seeks to reduce its reliance on gas for electricity generation. Dubai has been the most active of the emirates, tendering for the third phase of a 5GW solar park. However, Abu Dhabi, which built the UAE’s first solar plant, is now looking to develop a second.
Dubai’s Dewa says it has received five bids from international firms to build the 800MW third phase of its Shaikh Muhammad bin Rashid Al Maktum Solar Park, which is taking shape 50km south of Dubai city at Seih al-Dalal at an expected total cost of Dh50bn ($13.6bn). (CONTINUED - 846 WORDS)
