The Sadara joint venture of state petroleum firm Saudi Aramco and US firm Dow Chemical has started up the second of two linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) units at its complex in Jubail on Saudi Arabia’s Gulf coast.
Both the LLDPE plants have capacity to produce 375,000 tons/year. When the 26-unit complex is fully operational – expected later this year – the LLDPE units and others in Sadara’s olefins chain will receive ethylene feedstock from a cracker with capacity to deliver 1.5mn t/y of ethylene and 400,000 t/y of propylene.
