Crude oil this week loaded at the Zueitina export terminal in Libya’s northeast despite concerns over nearby fighting between the Petroleum Facilities Guard (PFG) and the Libyan National Army (LNA). But there is no sign yet of regular exports from the port resuming – with the scope of planned shipments limited to draining storage tanks at the port with the crude shipped to Zawiya refinery near Tripoli. Indeed, the terminal remains closed following the single loading with forces loyal to the LNA repeating threats to prevent it reopening.
The ‘Libyan National Army’ is in reality an eastern militia led by renegade general Khalifa Haftar and affiliated to, but not controlled by, Libya’s internationally-recognized House of Representatives based in the eastern port of Tobruk. (CONTINUED - 1183 WORDS)
