Egyptian fertilizer manufacturer El Nasr (Semadco) has awarded Germany’s Thyssenkrupp a “mid-three-digit million euros” EPC contract for a new fertilizer plant to be built at Ain Sukhna on the Red Sea.
Thyssenkrupp says the plant will begin operating in 2022 with capacity to produce 440,000 t/y of ammonia, 380,000 t/y of urea and 300,000 t/y of calcium ammonium nitrate. The project will be the first fertilizer plant to start up in Egypt since 2009, when Misr Fertilizers began operations at Damietta on the Mediterranean with capacity to produce 867,000 t/y of ammonia and 1.4mn t/y urea.
