Oman state utility OPWP has awarded the Ibri 2 solar IPP project to a consortium of Saudi developer Acwa Power, the GCC’s Gulf Investment Corporation and Kuwait’s Alternative Energy Projects.
OPWP pegs project cost at $400mn and anticipates commercial operations by June 2021 at the Ibri site, 300km west of Muscat (see map). 500MW of electricity will be delivered to Oman’s Main Interconnected System (MIS) grid, which serves Muscat and northern Oman (MEES, 15 March).
