Progress at the massive Benban solar park in southern Egypt has been rapid in recent months. A year ago only a single plot had panels installed. But latest satellite photography indicates that as of late March, 23 of the 40 plots were largely or wholly covered with panels, near-doubling the end-2018 figure of 12.
A further three of the plots are partly covered in solar photovoltaic (PV) panels, whilst three more show some signs of work such as the installation of the metal racking on which the panels are mounted. Only 11 show no sign of activity and these include five mini-plots (see map). Installation of panels is one of the final stages before PV capacity is hooked up to the grid. (CONTINUED - 1236 WORDS)
