Oman’s Authority for Electricity Regulation said this week that it expects the government’s outlay on electricity sector subsidies to rise to $1.57bn (OM 605.4mn) this year – a 13% year-on-year increase – reflective of an increase in electricity demand.
The state firm also says the startups of the Ibri IPP and Sohar-3 gas-fired powerplants (see MEES, 7 June) will increase the need for subsidy spending, presumably due to higher generation costs being passed onto the consumer. (CONTINUED - 118 WORDS)
