Eni and the Sharjah National Oil Company (SNOC) announced Sharjah’s first onshore gas discovery in 37 years this week – barely a year after the Italian major snapped up all three exploration blocks offered in Sharjah’s debut licensing round (MEES, 18 January 2019).
The Mahani discovery is sited in the Area B concession (SNOC 50%op, Eni 50%; see map). Eni says the well “tested with flow rates up to 50mn cfd of lean gas and associated condensate.” Mahani-1 was drilled to 4,450ms and further wells are planned to evaluate the size of the discovery. The discovery presumably comes from an exploration well which spudded December 2018, just prior to Eni’s award (MEES, 25 January 2019). (CONTINUED - 278 WORDS)
