The International Monetary Fund (IMF) last week announced that it has agreed to provide Jordan with $146mn as part of its Extended Fund Facility (EFF), providing the cash-strapped kingdom with a lifeline to overcome its entrenched financial woes. The latest disbursement brings the total EFF cash received by Jordan to $687mn and is part of a $1.3bn, 48-month extension approved in March (MEES, 27 March).
The IMF says its staff has proposed bringing forward some of the disbursements into 2021 in order to help Amman cope with its economic hardships. Jordan is also receiving a $1.7bn Rapid Financing Instrument (RFI) from the IMF due to be paid out until 2024. (CONTINUED - 203 WORDS)
