The semi-autonomous Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has long been a sore spot with Baghdad, especially when it comes to its independent production and export of crude oil. The matter has become especially contentious during Opec production cuts given that the KRG has continued to pump as much crude as it can during such spells.
Talks were held this week between the two parties over the KRG contributing to production cuts this time around. Following the discussions, Iraqi Oil Minister Thamir Ghadhban said that talks covered “mechanisms to reduce oil production of oil fields throughout Iraq, including the fields of the [Kurdistan] region.” (CONTINUED - 229 WORDS)
