Saudi Arabia’s critically important gas sector has been transformed over the past 20 years. Not just has processing capacity more than tripled, arguably just as importantly, gas production has been increasingly decoupled from oil. This has considerably eased a major strategic vulnerability for the kingdom.
The latest milestone is the start-up of the final phase of the 2.5bn cfd Fadhili gas processing plant (MEES, 19 June) which processes non-associated gas from the Hasbah and Khursaniyah fields. If run at full capacity, the Fadhili plant could more than offset the reduction of associated gas production caused by the deep Opec+ production cuts this summer. (CONTINUED - 1579 WORDS)
