Such has been the rise in Morocco’s effective generating capacity over the past few years that for the first time ever the country became a net power exporter in 2019 (see chart 1).
Morocco’s installed capacity actually fell by 260MW to 10.68GW last year as some older units were decommissioned and little new capacity was added. But power generation rose by 16.9% to a record 40.35TWh as new plants that started up in 2018 continued their ramp up to capacity (MEES, 17 May). This new (effective) capacity also helped the country meet a 3.6% rise in peak demand to 6.54GW. (CONTINUED - 842 WORDS)
