Egypt’s gas output capacity hit a record 7.2bn cfd at the end of the 2019-20 financial year in June, Magdy Galal, head of state gas firm Egas told the company’s annual general assembly on 20 September. This figure is well above the actual record output figure of 6.74bn cfd hit last December (MEES, 14 February).
Even though new capacity has come online since – the country’s largest field, Eni’s 21.5tcf Zohr, increased its capacity to 3.2bn cfd in April (MEES, 24 April) – output, at Zohr and elsewhere, remains constrained with Egas enforcing shut-ins rather than sell surplus gas at depressed international LNG prices (MEES, 25 September).
