Egypt is looking at the possibility of importing more Israeli gas, MEES understands. Egypt has imported 350mn cfd of gas from Israel over the first eight months of the year (see chart, MEES, 22 October) and plans to increase flows to 650mn cfd in the second half of next year when debottlenecking issues have been resolved on the Israeli side (MEES, 22 January).
Among the options Egypt and Israel are looking at is a direct pipeline from US major Chevron’s 22.7tcf Leviathan gas field to the Shell-operated 7.2mn t/y ELNG export plant at Idku (MEES, 1 October). Another possible option is the construction of a 3-5bcm/y (290-480mn cfd) onshore pipeline linking Israel’s southern natural gas network and a section of the Arab Gas Pipeline (AGP) that runs southwards down Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula, according to a recent Reuters report (see map, MEES 19 February).
