The Abu Dhabi Department of Energy (DoE) announced on 5 November that start up of the huge 2GW Al Dhafra solar PV plant is “due by 2023.” Previously commercial operations were expected to start in the second half of 2022 (MEES, 31 July 2020).
The new timeframe was revealed as part of an announcement by DoE on its plans to support the UAE’s net zero ambitions. DoE highlighted “nine existing and planned projects” focused on clean energy generation, electrification of the water production system through reverse osmosis (RO) and energy efficiency measures which “have the potential of reducing emissions associated with power generation and water production by at least 50% in the next 10 years.” (CONTINUED - 109 WORDS)
