As many international oil companies have shunned Algeria over the past few years, Italian major Eni has bucked the trend. In 2018 it signed a $400mn deal to take three blocks in the Berkine Basin and started production in just seven months – something of a miracle in a country where project delays of several years are par for the course.
Blocks Sif Fatima II, Zemlet El Arbi and Ourhoud II are a key element that Eni is calling the ‘North Berkine’ project. As well as bringing online fresh liquids and gas production, the project also seeks to tie in associated gas from the firm’s nearby producing assets (MEES, 6 March 2020). (CONTINUED - 1372 WORDS)
