The emerging political and economic rivalry between Saudi Arabia and the UAE burst into the public spotlight last week as the two regional heavyweights locked horns during a tempestuous set of Opec+ meetings (MEES, 2 July). In the immediate aftermath, Riyadh announced new regulations which seem calibrated to frustrate the UAE.
