Members of the Iraqi parliament’s integrity committee want prime minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi to set up a panel to investigate pricing of single-sourced contracts awarded to GE and Siemens.
The timing of these calls, published in a committee member’s interview with the Wall Street Journal on 20 August just 51 days before parliamentary elections, looks highly political. However, MEES understands that specific project awards, IPPs and maintenance contracts have already been the subject of communication between MPs, the electricity ministry and the country’s federal integrity commission.
