Debottlenecking of Oman LNG’s three liquefaction trains is on track to be completed next year. CEO Hamel al-Naamany told reporters on the sidelines of the Gastech conference in Dubai this week that work is progressing smoothly. Nameplate capacity is 10.4mn t/y but is slated to rise to 11.4mn t/y upon completion. Train 1 is now back at full capacity following the debottlenecking, with Mr Naamany saying work was completed earlier this month.
With the industry seeking to burnish its credentials as a relatively low-carbon intensity fuel in the energy transition, Oman LNG is also pursuing exporting Green LNG. Ultimately it plans to install carbon capture facilities at its plant, and Mr Naamany says “we have a master plan on greenhouse gas reduction that is going to the board.” No further details regarding scale or timeframe were provided.
