As temperatures fall and gas demand rises, Iran says it has managed to increase capacity at its giant South Pars offshore gas field by 50mn m3/d (1.7bn cfd) since last winter. Capacity at the field now stands at a massive 750mn m3/d (26.5bn cfd) as a result, according to Ahmed Bahosh, CEO of the South Pars Gas Complex in Assaluyeh.
The South Pars gas field, which is shared with Qatar’s North Field, accounts for 75% of Iran’s claimed capacity. National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) CEO Mohsen Khojastehmehr told the oil ministry’s Shana news agency earlier this month that claimed national capacity now stands at a record 1bn m3/d (35.3bn cfd), adding that this capacity is sustainable.
