Syrian oil and gas sector “direct and indirect” war damages have reached $100.5bn over the past decade according to Oil and Natural Resources Minister Bassam Tomeh. The disclosure came in a 2 February meeting held with sector executives to follow up on last year’s plan, according to a ministry press release.
The government states that the country produced 31.4mn barrels of oil in 2021, an implied average of 86,000 b/d. However, the majority of this was in Kurdish-controlled areas, and only 16,000 b/d went to refineries under the control of the Assad regime. (CONTINUED - 1579 WORDS)
