Egypt’s gas output hit a record 6.94bn cfd for 2021 with a record 73% of this, some 5.05bn cfd, coming from the Mediterranean offshore (MEES, 4 March). The key developments that have boosted output to record levels are Eni’s 21.5tcf Zohr field which came online in late 2017 and BP’s West Nile Delta (WND) which started up in phases from 2017.
But typical high decline rates at Egyptian fields mean that a constant pipeline of discoveries and developments is needed to maintain output. And no large offshore discoveries have been made since Eni’s August 2015 Zohr find (MEES, 23 October 2015). (CONTINUED - 1202 WORDS)
