Algerian state oil firm Sonatrach’s plans to fully develop the oil potential of the Touggourt region in the Berkine Basin received a boost this week after results from a recent appraisal well upped reserves at a promising field in the area to nearly 1 billion barrels.
Sonatrach says the West Oglet En Nasser-2 (WOEN-2) well, completed 22 March on the Touggourt Est 1 permit, confirmed the “northward extension ... of the Oglet En Nasser crude oil field” with the firm as a result hiking the field’s proved and probable reserves estimate by 415mn barrels to 961mn barrels.
