TotalEnergies has a 37.5% stake alongside Saudi Aramco in Saudi Arabia’s Satorp refining and petrochemicals complex at the Gulf coast industrial hub of Jubail. The refinery has 460,000 b/d capacity and is integrated with an 800,000 t/y paraxylene unit, a 200,000 t/y propylene unit, and a 140,000 t/y benzene unit.
The partners are developing new integrated petrochemicals facilities at Satorp. When they awarded US firm McDermott’s Lummus Technology unit a key engineering contract for the 1.5mn t/y mixed feed cracker and an 800,000 t/y polyethylene plant in 2019, they were envisioning a 2024 startup (MEES, 25 October 2019).
