Italy’s Eni this week signed a deal to significantly boost contracted pipeline imports from Algeria as Italy seeks to reduce its reliance on Russian gas amid the invasion of Ukraine.
While details of the 11 April deal between state-controlled Eni and Algerian state-firm Sonatrach are scant, a statement from Eni says that volumes through the Trans-Mediterranean Pipeline, which traverses Tunisia on its way to Italy, are set to “gradually” rise in 2022 and increase supply by “up to 9bcm/y” in 2023-2024.
