Egypt’s state-owned Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 21 April with a consortium of France’s EdF Renewables and local firm ZeroWaste to produce 350,000 t/y of green ammonia bunker fuel for ships at Ain Sukhna on the country’s Red Sea coast, for an estimated $3bn investment.
SCZone chairman Yehia Zaki revealed in March that EdF and ZeroWaste were one of six consortia bidding for the project as Cairo continues to sign-up large international firms to its burgeoning green hydrogen and green ammonia plans ahead of hosting COP27 later this year (MEES, 8 April).
