Malaysian operator Petronas is planning a 30,000 b/d capacity boost at Iraq’s 100,000 b/d capacity Gharraf oil field later this year. The firm said on 17 April that it aims to bring online a new leased oil train at the field, located in Iraq’s Dhi Qar province, in 3Q. New capacity is needed as Opec+ cuts unwind. Petronas says it has already “commenced start-up activities” for the new train and is “now in the stabilization phase.” It adds that it still aims to hit Gharraf’s Plateau Production Target (PPT) of 230,000 b/d in 2024.
Elsewhere in Dhi Qar, state driller IDC announced on 26 April that it has started drilling the first well out of 20 awarded to it in July 2020 in partnership with US services firm Weatherford at the nearby 90,000 b/d Nasiriya oil field (MEES, 27 August 2021). (CONTINUED - 137 WORDS)
