North Africa’s natural gas exports to Europe fell by 5% year-on-year to 14.1bcm in the first quarter of 2022, despite a big surge in LNG to the continent from Egypt (see chart 1). The lower than hoped for volumes come as Europe scrambles for alternative supplies following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
