The world is ready to grab every available gas molecule and war-torn Yemen’s prime minister Maeen Abdulmalik wants to seize the opportunity. His statement last month that there are “ongoing efforts” to bring back the two-train 6.7mn t/y Yemen LNG export facility at Balhaf has revived hopes of gas exports and revenues. The plant has been shut since April 2015 amid Yemen’s civil war.
The sentiment is bolstered by the fact that a two-month UN brokered truce between the Saudi-backed Yemeni government and Iran-affiliated Houthi rebels has held since 2 April. Mr Abdulmalik forecasts “$3-5bn in revenues” if the terminal comes back online but says “it may take months.” (CONTINUED - 891 WORDS)
