Saudi Arabia’s PlasChem Park industrial park at the Jubail east coast downstream hub has been a decade in the making and is a key plank of the kingdom’s efforts to maximize the value of every hydrocarbon molecule produced (MEES, 12 October 2012).
PlasChem is being developed by the 65:35 Sadara JV of Saudi Aramco and Dow Chemicals and the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu over a 12km² site adjacent to Sadara’s facilities (see map). The Sadara complex is centered around a 1.9mn t/y mixed-feed cracker, which is able to process up to 53,000 b/d of naphtha and 85mn cfd of ethane and an aromatics plant producing 280,000 t/y of benzene and 134,000 t/y of toluene.
