The start up of the Al Zour LNG import terminal last year has been a gamechanger for Kuwait (MEES, 16 July 2021). The 22mn t/y facility has enabled Kuwait to massively ramp up its imports of LNG – and to do so year-round – as it is no longer reliant on a single 5.8mn t/y FSRU. Imports surged to record highs during last summer’s peak demand season, and that trend has continued in 2022.

Data intelligence firm Kpler shows that Kuwait imported a record 835,00 tons of LNG in June ahead of the typical peak-months of July and August (see chart 1). (CONTINUED - 481 WORDS)
