Iraq’s increasingly assertive Federal Supreme Court (FSC) has struck at the oil business again. Some seven months after its controversial February ruling that Kurdistan’s independent oil sector was unconstitutional (MEES, 18 February), it has now ruled against the federal government’s re-establishment of the Iraq National Oil Company (INOC).
On 21 September, the FSC ruled against steps taken by the now-caretaker Mustafa al-Kadhimi government to establish INOC, including a directive for Oil Minister Ihsan Ismaael to head the firm. (CONTINUED - 1084 WORDS)
