Germany’s Wintershall Dea says it has made a natural gas discovery in its East Damanhour block, in Egypt’s onshore Nile Delta region. “The well encountered a 43-meter thick gas bearing reservoir with a gas-water contact of 2,627 meters,” the firm announced on 11 January, adding that the well tested at 15mn cfd.
The ED-2X well is the second of a 5-7 well campaign being carried out on the block where operator Wintershall (40%) is partnered by Egypt independent Cheiron (40%) and Croatia’s INA (20%). With the well just 3km from production infrastructure at the firm’s severely depleted 30mn cfd Disouq field this will enable rapid development, Wintershall exploration chief Georg Bresser says.
