Egypt’s LNG exports rose 7% year on year to 7.14mn tons for 2022, the highest since 2010, driven in large part by record 4.11mn tons of exports from the Eni-operated 5mn t/y Segas facility at Damietta, which saw its first full year of operations since its February 2021 restart following an eight-year shut down (MEES, 12 March 2021).
2022 marked the first year that Damietta has shipped more than Egypt’s other LNG export facility, 7.2mn t/y ELNG operated by UK major Shell and Malaysia’s Petronas at Idku, 165km west of Damietta on Egypt’s Mediterranean coast. While Damietta exports were up a whopping 45% year on year, exports from Idku slumped 21% to 3.04mn tons (see chart 1). (CONTINUED - 823 WORDS)
