Iraq is planning to bring gas output from the 60mn cfd non-associated gas Siba field up to 100mn cfd by mid-2024 according to Bassim Abdulkareem, Basrah Oil Company (BOC)’s CEO. Siba is located in Basra Province, on the border with Iran, and is operated by the Hong Kong-listed United Energy Group (UEG), whose Iraq assets are under its wholly owned subsidiary Kuwait Energy.
UEG has a 30% operating stake at Siba alongside Turkey’s TPAO (30%), Iraq’s Missan Oil Company (25%), and Egyptian state firm EGPC (15%). In December, UEG had drilled its first well (Siba-10) targeting the deeper Yamama formation, which BOC said then was part of a three-well drilling campaign targeting the formation (MEES, 16 December 2022).
