Saudi Arabia’s renewables ambitions are moving from potential to reality, driven by a significant rollout of solar capacity this year. The kingdom’s pivot to renewables has suffered previous false dawns (MEES, 10 June 2016), with lofty targets failing to translate into action, but that is no longer the case and significant capacity is now being brought online.
Renewables capacity now stands well in excess of 2GW, up from barely 700MW at the start of the year, with the past year characterized by an increasingly frequent succession of contract awards for large-scale solar projects. (CONTINUED - 969 WORDS)
