Despite the potential for increased unrest in the run up to 10-12 December presidential elections, Cairo on 3 November hiked retail gasoline prices, with the cheapest 80 Ron grade seeing a 14% increase to E£10/liter.

This is a E£1.25/liter increase on Q3. 92 Ron gasoline sees an identical increase to E£11.50/liter, with 95 Ron up E£1/liter at E£12.50/liter. For all three grades this marks the biggest increase in both actual and percentage terms since Egypt, under IMF pressure, introduced an ‘automatic pricing mechanism’ in 2019 (MEES, 12 July 2019).
