On 19 November Yemen’s Houthis seized the 17,000 DWT car-carrier vessel Galaxy Leader (IMO: 9237307) in the Red Sea. The Houthis have since anchored it near Hodeidah port, which they control.
The vessel is owned by British company Galaxy Maritime and was operated by Japan’s Nippon Yusen. The Houthis targeted it claiming it was an Israeli ship, likely due to the partial ownership by Israeli businessman Abraham Ungar and its management by Tel Aviv-based firm Ray Shipping.
