A tentative four-day ceasefire between Israel and Hamas came into force on 24 November. The pause in Gaza fighting, brokered by Egypt and Qatar, is intended to see a hostage and prisoner exchange as well as the supply of food and other essentials to the beleaguered Gaza strip.
Hamas agreed to the release of 50 women and children hostages captured in its 7 October assault in return for the release of 150 Palestinian female and juvenile prisoners from Israeli jails.
